Now here is my question and my delima. Now the same store has a Samsung 42″ DLP HDTV ( HL-S4266W) on sale for the same exact price. I love the picture on the tv I have now. The reason I went with that size is because of the price. Now im able to get 10 more inches. Im just worried that I am gonna fall into- “you get what you pay for”. Im told both brands are good at making TV’s. If they both are good, why would one be 10 inches bigger and the same price. I am hoping that the bigger one will have just as amazing as the one I have now. If so, I will take mine back and upgrade. Only problem is, they dont have the bigger TV in stock so I cant see it till I buy it and it comes in. Please give any advice you may have if you have either one of these TV’s or have experience with DLP’s. Thanks for any help!!! P.S- Both TV’s and specs can be found at Bestbuy.com
DLP uses rear projection much like a projection system that would be mounted on a ceiling. They are significantly deeper and not as bright as LCD’s. If your room is bright I suggest keeping the LCD. Best viewing distance on the LCD is going to be between 4 and 8 feet. With the 42″ your best viewing distance is going to be between 5.5 and 10.5. I hope this helps as I didn’t want to overwhelm you.

Rainbow effect is virtually done away with.
As others have pointed out DLP is projection and is much larger in depth than what you have. I have heard about the rainbow effect but have not witnessed it myself. I understand for some it is very objectionable. There is one other thing to consider. Projection TV’s like DLP need to have an expensive bulb to project the image onto the screen. Some have reported this bulb to cost $400 to replace! It also appears that this bulb lasts around 2-3 years or less if you use the set a lot. I believe projections tv’s costs less to manufacture which is the reason for the price difference.
The DLP is going to weigh about 180 lbs and take up floor space and get dusty. You over paid for the 32″ at today’s prices,, there are good ones going for 700 these days. I have a 32″ LCD which I wall mounted and it’s great fro a medium to small main room. I’d either keep it, or check out office depot for a $699 dollar LCDs that look good. Make sure you get an up-converting DVD player for it and set your cable box for 1080i output.
1. The DLP is cheaper because your direct LCD has 32 inches of LCD to generate that image. The DLP only has (I’m guessing a bit) about 3 inches of LCD projecting from behind, onto the screen.
If you really want to, check with Bestbuy if they have a price protection program, but I don’t think they do.
However, you will prbably be happier with your direct view LCD screen, as it likely has a better image than the DLP, I really wouldn’t worry too much.

DLP televisions experience an artifact called the “Rainbow Effect”. If you look at the screen and move your eyes around, you’ll see a rainbow of red/blue/green. This is caused by the color wheel that moves in front of the DLP microchip (made of micromirrors). Some people cannot see it, but for the people that do, it sucks. You’ll never know if you can or cannot see it until you get it home. I’d stick with the LG. If you like the picture, and you are happy with the size, then don’t procrastinate. I’d even go with an LCD RPTV vs a DLP RPTV if you really want to change. LCD’s screendoor isn’t as noticable as the rainbow effect.
STICK WITH THE LCD!!
DLP is good but if your going to switch from an LCD to a DLP, it kinda seems like your downgrading not upgrading
I’d say stick with the flat panel LG.
1) Because you won’t have to spend another $150 on a lamp in two years, as you would have to if you went with the DLP
2) the rainbow effect is outrageously disheartening.
3) the LG LCD will totally eliminate the glare.
4) the LG LCD has universal brightness, which means you can view it from anywhere in the room.
5) Down the road, you could mount the LCD on the wall if you’d like.
If you bought it from best buy, they have a 60 day price match guarantee, and are a very reputable company to buy from.
