If it is a high definition TV it is probably that you are watching a regular TV program in the wide screen mode.
This is called the aspect ratio.
Regular TV is 4 units wide by 3 units high (4×3) High definition TV or wide screen is 16 units wide by 9 units high (16×9). Therefore if you watch regular TV in the wide screen mode the picture will be stretched, or if you watch a wide screen broadcast in the regular mode it will be compressed.
There is a mode button on the remote that will allow you to adjust the picture to the correct aspect ratio the program is broadcast in.
Note: TV is going through a transition from analog to digital. In the future ALL TV will use 16×9 for new productions but just think of how many programs have been produced using the correct system. So the problem will be around for a very long time.

you purchased an HDTV but you are not watching HD programing. you can adjust the settings on your TV to compensate.

  2. Linda says:

your tv is probably widescreen, regular tv signals still come as 4 * 3 instead of widescreen. Your tv is stretching the signal like it’s designed to to compensate. If you want widescreen signals, you’ll have to subscribe to HDTV

  3. Chigga says:

Look for a format or aspect ratio button on the remote. Should cycle through all the diffrent pic sizes.

  4. ThatGuy1 says:

you may have the wrong aspect ratio.
