Regular Direct Tv On A Hd Capable Lcd Tv?

Does this look good? I’ve heard that it could look worse, compared with older tv’s. I was looking into buying a 40-42 in. LCD TV (1080p), but not really wanting to upgrade my Direct TV to HD Direct TV at the moment. I just didn’t want all of my channels to look horrible. I know that playing DVD’s and my XBOX 360 would look good, but was curious as to what my normal cable (Direct TV) is going to be like.

you’ll notice an improvement, but just a little one. I recently called directv and got a free upgrade to a regular HD reciever (not the dvr one) All I had to pay for was a 19.99 service fee. If you’re gonna go HD, you’ll want HD service. It doesn’t make sense not to.

Low Definition TV signals will show all the limitations of that signal. Plus it’s line-doubled, which means they take one line of information and run it twice….so now the signal is magnified too.
Standard def can look good if your stations are digital, but the old analog stations can look like it’s lost it’s detail…..The hair on people’s heads is a very obvious detail-loser….
Now, I have DISH and yes, I DON’T WANT TO SPEND $200 to Upgrade my Box! That just sucks!
But, in your case you can tell them you want the box for free or you’ll take your business elsewhere…Then go to DISH and get the box for free (kinda…you pay upfront, then they give you back $20 for 10 months)
Me…I’ve had Direct-TV, and now with Dish, I’m waiting until Verizon-TV comes to town…
And I’ll just use my HD-Terrestrial tuner to compare HD-Locals with SD-Locals off of my Satellite…..Believe me, it impresses people when you show them the difference !

HDTV are optimised for HD but they are also backwards compatible .
If your worried about that, then get a Sony HDTV XBR CRT. Will look excellent both ways.
