I am looking to buy either a 42″ Plasma TV or 42″ LCD and I am not sure what brand or type of TV is the best. I am looking for an opinion on which TV I should buy.
I would go with LCD but read the website of comparisons.
i would get a sony, your going to pay little extra for the name but i believe its worth it.
You may want to check consumer reports, they should give you product test results and prices.
up to 37″ go for an lcd-these have better picture quality than the larger plasmas-you can get good quality lcd’s over this but they can be expensive (certainly more than a plasma of the same size) but for larger screens-certainly 42″ and over plasma is the better option in such the picture quality is better in hd form (no smearing/trailing etc that can be seen on larger lcd displays) they also use less power in the fact that there is no backlight in a plasma and in darker images there is little or no current supplied to the pixels from frame to frame so while it cannot be argued that lcd use less power on screens below 37″ over this then plasma has the edge. plasmas can also produce around 86 per-cent of the colour spectrum (potentially billions of colours) to lcd’s 75 per-cent. lcd’s however are less subsceptible to the screenburn that has plagued plasma over the years. but the latest models have technology built in that make this nuisance negligable. plasmas also tend to be heavier than their cousins. and finally it is at the moment extremely difficult to make plasmas with a true high definition requirement of 1920×1080 pixels or more. brands to go for include sony lg pioneer panasonic and samsung. hope this helps.
the LCD prices are coming down quite a lot compared with 2 years back and the screen size are getting bigger to match with plasma.

plasma tvs will outperform lcd tvs but only if you are using it for movies or television… lcd tvs still have a response time so some of them are not well suited for the fast motion in movies or sports.lcd tvs are far more versatile then plasma screens because they are far less susceptible to image burn then a plasma screen (that makes them ideal for use with video games or as computer moniters). there are a few makes of lcd tvs with very fast response times (samsung and sony) and the samsung and lg brands of plasma screens use pixel shift technology making them more burn-in resistant. samsung plasma and lcd screens also some of the highest colour combiantions available in the market as well as the highest contrast ratios giving them some of the best and most natural looking pictures available.
get an lcd. scout around and ask but it also good to wait these are a bit pricy now. a good brand would be a sony.
Sony makes the best LCD television sets. And Panasonic makes good Plasmas. In my opinion plasmas suck and are overpriced. LCD televisions are much better.
Hey brother, when it comes to LCD, sony and samsung are king of the hill. They look good from almost any angle, are bright, lots of detail, and you should be able to get one for $2000 ish in a 40″.
As far as plasmas go they have very deep colors, very dark blacks, they look almost 3d, and are the choice for best overall picture. Fast moving action also looks smoother on plasmas.
Look at them both at your local spot, and adjust the picture yourself. Also look at some non high def stuff to see how well they do at that. LG’s 2300 plasma and panasonics also look good. Hitachi and Samsung are others you should peek at.
Buy the picture you like, dont let people with no substance behind their opinions influence you.
