What’s The Best Lcd Tv To Buy At Least 42″ Wide.?

I’m confused which TV to buy. I need a respectable brand HD ready, digital ready with freeview. Does 1080p really make that much difference? Clear picture is a must. I don’t have sky yet, so how does normal terrestrial TV look on a LCD? Does 1080p improve this picture? The phillips Ambilight looks good, but is it worth the extra money; does anyone have this? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi, my son has just bought a Samsung 42″ LCD tv and it is fabulous. I have a Panasonic 32″ and it too is really clear and a great tv.

I did a lot of research before I purchased my big screen. I finally went with:
    Panasonic 50″ plasma TH-50PH9
this is by far the greatest T.V. I’ve ever seen. Definitely glad I purchased it. It’s on sale right now at newegg.com for $1700. not sure if that’s in your price range.

1080p will make no difference to your regular tv you watch, since you need a HD input to take advantage of it (such as Blu-ray, Sky HD etc.)
Normal terrestrial TV can actually look worse on an LCD screen, since the old CRT tvs were optimised to use this kind of picture.
They are well worth the money if you are going to take advantage of the HD aspect by getting an HD input, although stay away from Ambilight, its just a gimmick that they charge you an extra grand for. Spend your extra money to get a better TV such as a Bravia.
    Hope that helps ya.

no idea why anybody would want the ambilight its a pointless flashing coloured lights what next.!
get yourself down to a TV showroom cos some of these TVs don’t show you a full screen pic all the time and remember a lot of brands are all produced in one factory by the same people so you might just be paying for the badge!!
