An HD-Ready TV does not have a tuner, so it won’t work with an HD signal. In fact, it may not even work with an analog TV signal if it has no analog tuner.
You have to provide the tuner from another device. Choices are:
- A stand-alone tuner
- A cable or satellite box that has component or HDMI outputs (if you subscribe to an HD service from either one)
- An HD DVR like the TiVo HD
Like others have said buy a 1080P with built in tuner, but you also did not say what size TV you are looking for. Will you have Digital cable or Sat (Direct TV- Dish Network?) The best advice I can give before you buy anything get on the net and do a little home work. The days of just picking up a 19” Color TV are long gone too many factors to consider before you buy one. Room size plays a big part will you be watching Blue Ray movies, will you have an antenna and watch over the air broadcasts, too many to list.
In the USA an “HD ready” set is defined as a TV having a high definition display coupled with an analog tuner. These are already on their way out. My suggestion is to buy a 1080p (progressive scan) set. Just about all the new sets sold at retail are now digital. This means they have a digital tuner and of course a high definition display. I hope that clarifies it somewhat for you.
Stay well away from HD Ready TV’s – that incredibly misleading.
Buy an HDTV, not an HD Ready. You want one with a panel resolution of 1920×1080.
